The CG Motorsport Lightweight Solid Mass Flywheel is designed for performance-focused Nissan Micra K11 applications where reducing rotating mass and improving engine response are the priority.

Weighing just 3kg, the lightweight flywheel significantly reduces rotational inertia compared with a heavier standard flywheel, allowing the engine to gain and lose RPM more readily.

Ideal for fast-road, track and competition K11s, and particularly well suited to use alongside CG Motorsport Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 performance clutch kits.

Due to the age of the K11, many vehicles have previously had engines, gearboxes, flywheels and clutch assemblies replaced or swapped. Registration year or original vehicle specification should therefore not be relied upon where the drivetrain history is unknown.

What Does a Lightweight Flywheel Actually Do?

A lightweight flywheel does not increase engine horsepower.

Instead, reducing the mass of the flywheel reduces the amount of energy required to accelerate and decelerate the rotating assembly.

In practical terms, this allows the engine to:

• Gain RPM More Quickly
• Drop RPM More Quickly
• Respond More Sharply to Throttle Inputs
• Feel More Responsive During Gear Changes

This can make the engine feel noticeably more eager, particularly in a lightweight performance car such as the K11.

The benefit is particularly desirable in motorsport applications where the engine is regularly accelerating through the rev range and changing gear.

⚠️ The Trade-Off: Reduced Flywheel Inertia

Reducing flywheel weight also reduces the amount of rotational energy stored within the drivetrain.

While this is desirable for performance applications, there are compromises.

Compared with a heavier standard flywheel, you may experience:

• Less Assistance When Pulling Away
• Greater Need for Throttle Input at Low Speed
• Increased Sensitivity to Clutch Engagement
• Reduced Low-Speed Refinement

These characteristics become particularly noticeable when combined with a more aggressive performance clutch.

For a dedicated track or competition vehicle, these compromises are generally less significant.

For a car used extensively for motorway driving, long-distance journeys or stop-start traffic, customers should consider whether the benefits of a 3kg flywheel outweigh the reduction in everyday refinement.

Compatible Clutch Options

The flywheel is designed to accept compatible 180mm OE-fitment clutch dimensions, allowing it to be used with standard-style or uprated performance clutch kits of the correct specification.

It is well suited to:

Stage 1
For mildly modified road cars where smooth engagement remains important.

Stage 2
For moderately modified and lower-power forced-induction applications requiring additional torque capacity.

Stage 3
For higher-powered, track and competition applications where aggressive engagement and increased holding capacity are required.

Whichever clutch is selected, it must be the correct 180mm / 18-spline specification for this flywheel and gearbox combination.

Integral Ring Gear

The flywheel features an integral ring gear, providing a durable engagement surface for the starter motor as part of the flywheel assembly.

The ring gear should be inspected during installation and correct starter engagement confirmed before regular use.

Installation

Professional installation by a suitably qualified technician is strongly recommended.

While the gearbox is removed, the installer should inspect the condition and operation of the:

This CG Motorsport product is supplied with a 90-day mechanical warranty, subject to the manufacturer's warranty terms and conditions.

Performance drivetrain components can naturally introduce additional noise, vibration and changes in drivability. Characteristics resulting from the reduced rotating mass of the flywheel are not necessarily considered manufacturing defects.

Warranty coverage may be invalidated where the product has:

• Been Incorrectly Installed
• Been Modified
• Been Subjected to Misuse or Abuse
• Been Damaged by Incorrect or Incompatible Clutch Components
• Been Damaged by Starter Motor or Drivetrain Faults
• Been Transferred or Sold to Another Party

Proof of purchase will be required for any warranty claim.

Please contact us before removing or returning a flywheel which you believe may be defective so that the appropriate warranty procedure can be followed.

Labour, gearbox removal, installation and other consequential costs are not automatically covered by the manufacturer's warranty and should not be assumed to form part of a successful claim.
