Nissan Micra K11 Honda K20 / K24 Engine Conversion Mount Kit

Finally, a K-Swap Kit for the K11 Micra. What a time to be alive!

Developed by GizFab to install a Honda K20 or K24 engine with a K20 gearbox into the Nissan Micra K11, this conversion package takes care of some of the most difficult parts of putting Honda's K-Series into the tiny K11 engine bay.

The original intention was to develop a completely bolt-in conversion. Unfortunately, there simply isn't enough room in the K11 chassis to package the K-Series engine and gearbox properly without modifying the vehicle.

So we'll make this absolutely clear from the beginning:

⚠️ THIS IS NOT A BOLT-IN ENGINE CONVERSION

Cutting, welding and fabrication to the K11 chassis and original engine support structure are required.

If you're expecting to remove the CG engine on Friday evening and bolt a K20 straight in by Sunday afternoon using nothing more than a socket set, this isn't that conversion.

If you're comfortable with fabrication, or you're having the conversion carried out by a competent fabrication workshop, we've already done the development work to make the difficult parts considerably easier.

Engine & Gearbox Compatibility

Designed to suit:

  • Honda K20 Engines
  • Honda K24 Engines*
  • K20 Gearbox / Transmission

⚠️ K20 GEARBOX REQUIRED

The conversion mounts have been designed around the K20 gearbox.

A K24 gearbox uses a different mounting arrangement and will not work with this mount kit.

A K24 engine can be used with the appropriate K20 transmission.

K24 engines are approximately 19mm taller than the K20 configuration used during development. This additional height can create further clearance considerations, particularly around the brake master cylinder. The installer must assess and resolve these clearances during installation.

⚠️ FABRICATION WORK REQUIRED

Please read this entire section before ordering.

Installing a K-Series engine and gearbox into a K11 requires permanent modification to the vehicle.

This includes cutting and welding structural areas of the chassis and modification of the original engine support crossbeam.

This work must be carried out by somebody competent in structural automotive fabrication.

1. Original K11 Gearbox Mount Removal

The original Nissan Micra gearbox mounting bracket on the chassis leg must be removed from the vehicle.

This is necessary to create the space and mounting arrangement required for the K20 transmission.

2. Left-Hand Chassis Leg Modification

The K20 gearbox casing occupies space originally used by the K11 chassis leg.

The chassis leg therefore requires:

  • Cutting
  • Clearance Modification
  • Strengthening
  • Boxing

to provide adequate clearance around the gearbox casing while restoring the structural integrity of the modified area.

Simply cutting clearance into the chassis leg and leaving it open or inadequately reinforced is not acceptable.

3. Gearbox Mount Installation

The supplied conversion gearbox mount must be welded to the modified chassis leg.

To make positioning considerably easier, the mount has been designed to index from two existing threaded holes within the K11 chassis leg.

These provide a repeatable reference for locating the mount correctly before it is permanently welded into position.

Correct positioning should still be verified by the installer before welding.

4. Original K11 Crossbeam Support Required

The front and rear conversion mounts retain the original K11 crossbeam support used by the factory engine mounting arrangement.

Do not discard this component during removal of the original drivetrain.

However, the crossbeam cannot simply be reused without modification.

5. Crossbeam Modification for Sump Clearance

The original K11 engine mounting crossbeam interferes with the Honda K-Series sump.

It therefore requires:

  • Cutting
  • Notching for Sump Clearance
  • Reinforcement
  • Welding

The modified crossbeam must retain adequate structural strength after clearance has been created.

Again, this is structural fabrication work and should be carried out accordingly.

Optional Fourth Mount

An optional fourth engine mount is included with the conversion kit.

⚠️ STEEL SUMP ONLY

The fourth mount can only be used with the appropriate steel sump configuration.

It cannot be assumed to work with alternative sump arrangements.

Alternator Relocation

The factory Honda K20 alternator position cannot be retained.

In its standard position, the alternator occupies effectively the same area as the K11's right-hand headlight.

The alternator therefore needs to be relocated.

There are two main approaches depending on whether you intend to retain the conventional belt-driven Honda water pump or convert to an electric water pump.

Option 1 - Retaining the Belt-Driven Water Pump

If retaining the original belt-driven water pump arrangement, we recommend the T7Design Honda K20/K24 Alternator Relocation Kit.

The alternator relocation arrangement still requires modification to the K11.

The slam panel will require cutting and boxing to provide adequate alternator clearance.

Some trimming beneath the headlight area will also be required.

Option 2 - Electric Water Pump Conversion

For vehicles using an electric water pump, we recommend the T7Design Honda K20/K24 Electric Water Pump Plate Kit.

This provides an alternative accessory arrangement that can improve packaging within the extremely limited K11 engine bay.

Some trimming of the slam panel beneath the headlight area is still required.

Neither arrangement completely eliminates the need for body modification.

Radiator Relocation

The factory K11 radiator position conflicts with components of the K-Series installation, particularly around the:

  • Clutch Cylinder
  • Throttle Body

The radiator therefore needs to be moved forward onto the slam panel, directly ahead of its original position.

The installer is responsible for designing and fabricating appropriate radiator mounting arrangements and ensuring adequate clearance, airflow, hose routing and cooling capacity.

Optional Conversion Driveshafts

One of the most awkward parts of almost any engine conversion is getting the driveshaft combination right.

For this reason, we developed dedicated K11 K-Swap Conversion Driveshafts alongside the mount kit.

Conversion Shaft Features

  • CNC-Machined
  • Hardened / Heat-Treated
  • Motorsport-Grade Conversion Shafts
  • Developed Specifically for the K11 K-Series Conversion
  • Bare Shafts Only

The conversion shafts are designed to use:

EP3 Civic Inner CV → GizFab Conversion Shaft → K11 Micra Outer CV

The conversion also uses a K20A2 intermediate / half-shaft.

⚠️ CV JOINTS ARE NOT INCLUDED

The supplied conversion shafts are bare shafts only.

Inner CV joints, outer CV joints and the K20A2 half-shaft are not included unless specifically stated otherwise.

K11 Outer CV Reference

For clarity, during development we used:

NAPA - NCV 1034

for the K11 CV components required for our conversion shafts.

Other equivalent brands may also work, but we have not tested every aftermarket CV joint available.

The installer is responsible for confirming dimensions and compatibility when using alternative components.

Optional K-Swap Conversion Manifold

We also developed a dedicated exhaust manifold specifically around the extremely limited space available in the K11 K-Swap.

Manifold Specification

  • Hand Fabricated In-House by GizFab
  • Stainless Steel Construction
  • TIG Welded
  • 4-1 Design
  • 1.75" Primaries
  • 2.5" Collector
  • Designed Specifically Around the K11 K-Series Installation
  • Terminates in the Original K11 Exhaust Position within the Gear Tunnel

Positioning the outlet within the factory K11 exhaust route makes it considerably easier to build the remainder of the exhaust system.

It also complements our 2.5" K11 Full Exhaust Systems for customers wanting a more complete exhaust solution.

Why We Offer the Shafts & Manifold

Anyone who has completed an engine conversion will know that physically mounting the engine is often only the beginning.

Two of the biggest headaches are normally:

How do I connect the gearbox to the wheels?

and:

How do I get an exhaust manifold around everything I've just squeezed into the engine bay?

We spent the additional R&D time developing the conversion driveshafts and exhaust manifold alongside the mounts specifically to remove those two major problems from the conversion.

You can fabricate your own solutions if you wish, but the optional components allow you to benefit from the development work we've already completed.

⚠️ SUPPORT WHEN USING YOUR OWN SHAFTS OR MANIFOLD

Customers are welcome to purchase the mount kit without our conversion driveshafts or manifold.

However:

If you choose to manufacture or source your own driveshaft and/or exhaust manifold solutions, we cannot provide technical support for problems relating to those alternative components.

There are simply too many possible combinations, dimensions and fabrication methods for us to troubleshoot components we haven't supplied or tested.

Our driveshafts and manifold can be purchased separately at a later date if required.

However, the package/bulk discount will no longer apply.

Purchased separately:

Conversion Driveshafts - £600

Conversion Manifold - £520

Wiring & ECU Requirements

The factory Nissan Micra K11 engine wiring will not operate the Honda K-Series engine.

A suitable engine management and wiring solution will be required.

Typical approaches include:

  • Custom Engine Wiring Loom
  • Honda EP3 Donor Engine Harness
  • Suitable Standalone ECU
  • Appropriate Interface/Adapter Wiring Between the Honda Engine Harness and K11 Body/Dashboard Loom

Exactly how the electrical installation is completed will depend on the ECU, engine specification and level of integration required.

Wiring and ECU components are not included with the mount kit.

Gear Shifter & Linkage

The original K11 gear linkage cannot be retained.

The K11 uses a solid mechanical shift linkage, whereas the K20 gearbox uses a cable-operated gear selector.

A suitable K-Series cable shifter arrangement will therefore be required.

There are numerous universal and motorsport K-Swap shifter solutions available, allowing the installer to select a system appropriate for the intended vehicle.

Turbocharger Clearance

Is there room for a turbo?

Absolutely.

The conversion has sufficient potential for a turbocharged K-Series installation.

However, turbocharger, manifold, wastegate, downpipe, intercooler and associated component packaging will depend heavily on the hardware selected.

Additional fabrication and heat management should therefore be expected on turbocharged installations.

K24 Installation

Will a K24 fit?

Yes, with considerations.

The mount system can be used with a K24 engine when combined with the required K20 gearbox.

However, the K24 is approximately 19mm taller than the K20 configuration used during development.

This additional height may introduce clearance issues, particularly around the brake master cylinder and surrounding components.

The installer must assess and resolve these clearances during installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the factory K11 driveshafts work?

No.

The factory K11 driveshafts are not suitable for this conversion.

This is why we developed dedicated conversion shafts.

Will complete EP3 driveshafts work?

No.

The conversion requires the correct hybrid driveshaft arrangement rather than simply installing complete EP3 shafts.

Will the factory K11 wiring run the K-Series engine?

No.

Custom wiring and engine management integration will be required.

An EP3 donor harness can form the basis of the installation, but appropriate wiring will still be required to integrate it with the K11 body and dashboard systems.

Will the original K11 gear linkage work?

No.

The K11 uses a solid linkage while the K20 gearbox uses cables.

A suitable K-Series cable shifter arrangement is required.

Can I use a K24 gearbox?

No.

The mount kit has been developed around the K20 gearbox mounting arrangement.

Can I use a K24 engine?

Yes, when paired with the appropriate K20 gearbox, but additional clearance work may be required due to the approximately 19mm increase in engine height.

Is there room for a turbo?

Yes.

Turbocharging is entirely possible, although the exact installation will require additional fabrication based on your chosen turbo system.

⚠️ PLEASE UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE BUYING

This kit solves the engine and gearbox mounting aspect of installing a Honda K-Series drivetrain into a Nissan Micra K11.

It does not turn a K-Swap into a simple bolt-in conversion.

You will still need to address:

  • Structural Chassis Fabrication
  • Chassis Leg Modification & Reinforcement
  • Crossbeam Modification
  • Alternator Relocation
  • Cooling System & Radiator Relocation
  • Wiring & ECU Integration
  • Gear Selector & Cables
  • Fuel System Requirements
  • Intake System
  • Exhaust System
  • Driveshafts & CV Joints
  • Clutch Hydraulics
  • Brake & Suspension Clearance
  • Heat Management
  • General Conversion Fabrication

The exact work required will also vary depending on the engine, gearbox, intake manifold, throttle body, accessory arrangement, suspension and other components selected.

This is an advanced engine conversion and should not be attempted without appropriate mechanical, fabrication and electrical knowledge.

Structural Fabrication & Professional Installation

This conversion requires permanent modification to structural areas of the vehicle.

Cutting, welding, boxing and reinforcement work must be carried out by a competent automotive fabricator.

All fabricated areas should be inspected for adequate penetration, reinforcement, clearance and structural integrity before the vehicle is operated.

The engine and gearbox should be trial-fitted and all clearances verified before final welding or finishing.

Particular attention should be given to drivetrain movement under load. A component having clearance while the engine is stationary does not necessarily mean adequate clearance exists during acceleration, braking or gear changes.

Motorsport / Off-Road Use

This conversion kit is intended for motorsport, competition and off-road vehicle applications.

Engine conversions involving structural modification, changes to engine capacity, emissions equipment, power output and drivetrain configuration may be subject to registration, inspection, insurance and roadworthiness requirements depending on jurisdiction.

The purchaser and installer are responsible for determining the requirements applicable to their vehicle and intended use.
