1.5" SCH10 Purge Plug Kit

Designed and manufactured in-house by GizFab, our 1.5" SCH10 Purge Plug Kit provides a simple and reusable solution for backpurging manifold primaries, collectors and other tubular components during TIG welding.

Developed specifically with manifold fabrication in mind, the plugs are designed to work with 1.5" SCH10 tube as well as both short and long radius elbows.

Each kit contains four purge plugs, allowing multiple runners or sections to be prepared at the same time without constantly removing and repositioning your purge equipment.

Designed Specifically for Manifold Fabrication

Most tubular exhaust manifolds don't conveniently start and finish with straight sections of tube.

Primaries frequently begin or terminate with an elbow, and depending on the manifold design you may be working with either short or long radius bends.

We designed our purge plugs around this reality.

Rather than producing a cap that only works properly with straight tube, the plug geometry has been designed to work with the common tube and elbow arrangements encountered during manifold fabrication.

This makes them particularly useful for:

Why Backpurge?

When TIG welding stainless steel exhaust components, shielding the outside of the weld is only half of the process.

Without an inert gas supply inside the tube, the hot internal surface of the weld can react with oxygen and heavily oxidise.

Backpurging replaces the air inside the workpiece with an inert shielding gas, helping produce a cleaner internal weld profile with significantly reduced oxidation.

This is particularly important when producing exhaust and turbo manifolds where weld quality, cleanliness and durability are important.

Four-Plug System

Each kit contains four individual purge plugs, making it much easier to work through multiple manifold runners.

Rather than having to immediately remove purge equipment from a freshly welded and extremely hot runner, multiple sections can be set up at the same time.

This allows you to move onto the next section while the previous component cools before transferring the plugs again.

For anyone regularly fabricating multi-runner manifolds, this makes for a much more convenient workshop process.

Tool-Free Thumb Screw Retention

Each purge plug features an integrated thumb screw locking system.

This allows the plug to be secured to the workpiece by hand without requiring spanners, Allen keys or other tools every time it is installed or removed.

Simply position the plug correctly and tighten the thumb screw sufficiently to prevent it from moving.

Diffusers Included

The kit includes two diffusers to help distribute the incoming purge gas within the workpiece.

Rather than simply directing a concentrated stream of gas into one area, the diffuser helps provide a more controlled distribution of purge gas within the component.

Correct purge flow remains important. Excessive gas flow can create unnecessary turbulence and consume considerably more shielding gas without necessarily improving the purge.

Blanking Plugs Included

Two blanking plugs are supplied, allowing the purge plugs to be configured depending on the component and stage of fabrication.

The modular arrangement allows the plugs to be set up as required for different manifold runners, collectors and fabricated sections.

Hose Tail Included

A hose tail is supplied for connecting your purge gas hose to the appropriate plug.

Always ensure the hose is securely connected and suitable for the shielding gas and flow rate being used.

Designed for 1.5" SCH10

This version is specifically designed for 1.5" SCH10 tube and compatible elbows.

SCH10 is a nominal pipe specification and should not be confused with conventional thin-wall exhaust tube dimensions.

Please confirm the material and pipe specification you're working with before ordering.

Important - Heat

Although these plugs are intended for use during welding operations, they should not be subjected to unnecessary direct welding heat.

Allow adequate distance between the purge plug and weld wherever possible.

After welding, the workpiece can remain extremely hot even when it no longer appears visibly hot.

Allow the component to cool sufficiently before handling or removing the purge plugs.

Repeated excessive heat exposure may shorten the service life of the plugs.

⚠️ IMPORTANT - PURGE GAS MUST BE ABLE TO ESCAPE

When backpurging a component, the shielding gas must always have a suitable route to escape.

Never introduce a continuous gas supply into a completely sealed workpiece.

These plugs are intended to provide controlled purge gas flow through the component. They are not intended to pressurise the workpiece.

The operator is responsible for ensuring adequate venting throughout the purging and welding process.

Workshop Safety

These purge plugs are fabrication aids only and do not replace correct TIG welding practices or appropriate PPE.

Always ensure:

• The Correct Size Plug is Used
• Each Plug is Correctly Positioned
• Thumb Screws are Secure Without Excessive Tightening
• Gas Hoses are Secure
• Suitable Shielding Gas is Used
• Appropriate Purge Flow is Set
• The Workpiece is Adequately Vented
• Pressure Cannot Build Inside the Workpiece
• Components are Allowed to Cool Before Handling
• Appropriate Welding PPE is Used

12-Month Warranty*

This product is warranted to the original purchaser against manufacturing defects for a period of 12 months from purchase.

Our obligation under this warranty is limited to repair or replacement, at our discretion, where inspection confirms a manufacturing or material defect.

The warranty does not cover normal workshop wear, heat damage caused by excessive proximity to the weld, welding spatter, melting, damaged threads caused by excessive tightening, modification, incorrect gas connections, misuse or accidental damage.

These purge plugs are fabrication aids. The operator remains responsible for selecting the correct shielding gas, purge flow, venting arrangement and welding procedure for the material and component being fabricated.
